Convex Noses_deleted

AKA Roman Noses

Noses are one of the breed standards considered when looking at the different types of goats. When breeding mini's our goal is usually to produce a smaller version of their standard counterpart so let's look at not only that counterpart but variations even within the "convex family" so that we can make the proper assessment in our herd.

Convex (Roman)
ADGA describes the standard Nubian as "The head is the distinctive breed characteristic with the facial profile between the eyes and the muzzle being strongly convex, often referred to as a “Roman nose.” (ADGA)

For this reason, I wanted to give an example of our Nubian "Rose" so that you can see a standard version of this breed of goat. I will reference Rose in many articles as she is our foundation animal who we compare many of these breed standards to.

Elongated Convex
I find in the rest of my herd currently that there are varying lengths of nose as well as the degree of curve in relation to the length which is something we are working on improving with each breeding which Grover seemed to really help in his kids and now I am seeing an even bigger improvement in his grandkids!

To see the generational improvement take a look at this family tree:

Grover's Kids:
Blair, Echo, Memphis, Destiny.

Grover's Grandkids:
Arson, Frost Byte
